United by Blood: A Childhood Memory and a Timeless Film!

Long time ago, the versatile movie director Mr. Manmohan Desai made a Bollywood film called as Amar, Akbar, Anthony. As a 5 years old boy, I fondly remember how I enjoyed every scene in this movie. Almost 4 decades later, I am still awestruck about this movie and how entertaining it is even today.

To simply put, the movie is about 3 brothers who got separated in their childhood and reunite later in the life, at first not knowing they are blood brothers but later, of course, they come together to save their mother.

There is a scene at the end of the movie where their mother is hospitalised and she is badly in need of blood. As luck would have it, the sons are around and the next moment, all 3 of them are on the hospital bed (…hold your breadth) to donate their blood to their mother.

I read somewhere that Amitabh questioned this as it wasn’t very scientific, unless of course all the 3 sons and the mother have the same blood group. But Mr Desai assured that this scene will work because he knew for his audience, the fact that the 3 sons are saving their mother by donating their blood is more meaningful than the science of it. And I agree, like so many goosebump scenes in the movie, this was one too! Truly.
